AMTP Comments From Artists

From Leslie Arden
Composer and Lyricist: The Boys are Coming Home
(One Step Forward)

"I can't overstate the huge impact AMTP's workshop and production has had on the development of "The Boys are Coming Home" (now "One Step Forward"). Aside from the invaluable experience of seeing our
musical fully and competently mounted on a stage, AMTP also shepherded us through the NAMT (National Alliance for Musical Theater) experience, where we were able to showcase our musical to hundreds of producers and artistic directors from all across the country. Writing a musical is difficult and
daunting, but what a privilege and a joy it was to be surrounded and nurtured by all the AMTP folk who are, without a doubt, some of the most talented, experienced and knowledgeable people in our industry. I
know I will be forever grateful, and I only hope I'll have the opportunity to develop another musical with AMTP someday."

From Joe Thalken
Composer: Was

The care and professionalism that AMTP brought to the whole experience of bringing WAS to the stage was unprecedented, and it is an experience I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.

From Gary Griffin
Director: The Boys are Coming Home (One Step Forward)

"AMTP is a major event in the development of new musicals. The unique collaboration between the excellent Music Theatre program at Northwestern and the professional artists gives these new works the best possible opportunity to succeed. I had a fantastic time working with the artists of AMTP."

From Tina Landau
Director: Was

Several of the most rewarding and joyous theatrical experiences I've had in recent years have occured while working at AMTP. There is an atmosphere of adventure, of openness, of possibility about the place that is completley invigorating, and that beautifully supports the creative process. I can't imagine a more constructive environment for working on new musicals.

From Andrew Lippa
Composer and Lryicist: Asphalt Beach

What's to say about AMTP? The students are gifted, the facilities are
fantastic, the staff is inspired. It's that ugly view of Lake Michigan they
need help with...

From Oskar Eustis
Artistic Director: The Public Theatre and Collaborator:
The Boy in the Bubble

If the American Music Theatre Project didn't exist, we would have to invent it. Fortunately, it does exist, and is making an invaluable contribution to the creation of thrilling new American musicals. The combination of a great University and the skilled professional theatre folks of AMTP is a model for the future.

From: Frank Galati
Tony Award winning Director/Writer

AMTP is the most important locus for the creation of musical theatre in the WORLD! This great American art form needs a place to be nourished in the fresh air and healthy climate that only Northwestern
University can provide. Northwestern has made an extraordinary promise to the arts, that promise will be kept by great new works generated at AMTP
