Time After Time
Time After Time
Book and Lyrics by Stephen Cole
Music Composed by Jeff Saver
Directed by Philip Markle
Musical Direction by Dan Green
TIME AFTER TIME is a musical thriller based on Karl Alexander's novel and the 1970s film version starring Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen and David Warner. It takes a darker twist on Well's famous "Time Machine" storyline by bringing H.G. Wells and a not-so-friendly fellow named Jack the Ripper. into the 21st Century, The show pits the "Utopian" view of progressive scientists like H.G. Wells, who believed technology would cure all mankind's ills, with the brutal outlook of a killer like Jack the Ripper, who considered himself a monster in own time but an amateur in today's violent world. Jack and H.G. meet their other-halves in two very 21st century women -- Amy and Carol -- who show us that despite the violence and destruction we face every day, the only thing mankind has to hold on to, the only thing that makes living bearable in terrible times, is love.
The musical has a contemporary music theater sound (not pop), reminiscent of composers like Kander/Ebb, Maltby/Shire, Jeff Blumencrantz, Rupert Holmes, Heisler/Goldrich, and Joseph Thalken. The music is lush and beautiful and the lyrics at turns witty and moving.
A reading of Time After Time will take place at 8pm on Tuesday, November 13th in the Josephine Louis Theatre, 20 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. Admission is free. For directions, please see this link:
